Ranking Rebels: 10 Highlights from “Call to Action”

When Tarkin and the Inquisitor team up, it ain’t good.

What do you do when you have more thoughts about Star Wars Rebels than you know what to do with? Make a list of your favorite moments — in no particular order, because that might fry your circuits. Welcome to Ranking Rebels.

Tarkin comes to Lothal and our rebels broadcast their “Call To Action” — as Season One nears its finale.

Here are my 10 favorite moments from the episode!

1. Tarkin in the house.

Just like Vader’s first arrival on the Death Star, Tarkin’s arrival on Lothal is ominous. Poor Minister Tua thinks this is all a lot of faddle about a few pesky rebels, but Tarkin sets her straight and puts the Inquisitor on notice that everyone needs to step up their game.

2. The Jedi are dead.

Grand Moff Tarkin is a master tactician and an excellent bad guy, but he sure does seem to have a habit of counting his chickens before they hatch when it comes to the Jedi.

3. Poor Grint and Aresko.

You have to feel a little sorry for Commandant Aresko and Taskmaster Grint. The poor guys really are clueless. They’re so impressed with the skills of the rebel cell they’re supposed to have captured — and Tarkin is unhappy. Very. Unhappy.

4. Rebels recon.

I can’t pick one moment here because I really love the entire scene. Sabine, Ezra, and Kanan have fallen into a rhythm together, which makes watching them banter while working out a plan even more fun to watch. The Loth cat vs. probe droid fight is particularly awesome.

5. That gives me an idea!

Kanan’s plan to use the Empire’s messaging systems against it is a good plan, but Ezra’s worried. He knows first hand what happens to people who broadcast rebel messages. Kanan’s reminder that they’ve all suffered losses and will suffer more is prophetic, but he also reminds Ezra there’s a bigger fight to win.

6. I like this gun!

This whole thing while they’re being shot at and Ezra’s trying to get Zeb to leave is one of my favorites, especially with the “I’ll get you another gun.” *pewpewpewexplosion* “Yeah, I can get another gun.”

7. I’ll be right behind you.

Kanan, you wonderfully brave liar. Okay, maybe not a lie, but you know what I mean. Either way, once he knows he has to protect the rest of the crew, he makes sure no one’s getting through the door with a very well-placed saber thrust.

8. Taking a stand.

Kanan’s ready to fight to save the rest of the crew — but he didn’t expect the Inquisitor to show up. Once the lightsabers start flying, we can see that Kanan’s been practicing, however it’s not enough and he’s bested by the Inquisitor…again. In the end, Kanan tells a clearly conflicted Hera to leave without him, sacrificing himself for the greater good.

9. I’ve got a bad feeling about this.

Kanan’s all ready to be his usual defiant and cocky self until he meets Tarkin. Tarkin is another type of Imperial altogether and it’s interesting to see Kanan realize that maybe he’s in more trouble than he originally thought. Especially when he sees the lengths Tarkin will go to in order to silence dissenting voices.

10. The message.

Like his parents before him, Ezra Bridger becomes a voice for freedom on Lothal with a message that’s honest and from the heart. We know that people on Lothal heard it, but did the message get out any further before Tarkin blew up the tower? We’ll see.

As we approach the last two episodes of the season, Ezra has it right when he says this isn’t over. They have a cowboy Jedi to get back and Hera’s determined to make it happen.

Those were my moments for this week’s episode. Tell me what your favorite moments were in the comments and may the Force be with you!
